What is a legend or a key? Part of a map that shows meaning of symbols
Explain what an urban settlement is. Big cities with a high population where people live close to one another.
Name some urban cities. New York, Miami, New Orleans
Explain what a suburban settlement is. Medium sized cities where people are more spread out than urban cities. Usually close to big cities.
Name some suburban cities. Wylie, Plano, Allen
Explain what a rural settlement is. Farming communities where people are very spread out from one another.
Name some rural towns. Farmersville, Anna, Community
What does a political map show you? Boundary lines of cities, counties, states or countries chosen by the government.
What does a climate map show you? The temperature, wind speed, or precipitation for a region over time.
What does a physical map show you? Shows the physical features of a place such as landforms and bodies of water.
What are landforms on a physical map? Mountains, canyons, plains, plateaus
What are bodies of water on a map? oceans, lakes, rivers, gulfs
What are the names of the five U.S. regions? Northeast, Southeast, Southwest, West, Midwest
What is a political region? A geographic area that is run by a specific kind of government.
The Grand Canyon is in what state? Arizona
Name the 5 largest cities in the United States. New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Phoenix
What tool do you use to determine the relative location on a map? Compass Rose
What does a vegetation map show you? It shows the different type of plants and trees that grow in a specific area.
What does a population density map show you? It shows how many people live in area of land.
What is a region? A region is an area that shares physical or human characteristics.
