TermDefinition
Chemistry The study of the composition, structure, and properties of matter and the changes that matter undergoes.
Chemical Any substance that has a definite composition or is used or produced in a chemical.
Mass A measure of amount of matter in an object
Atom The smallest unit of an element that maintains the chemical properties of that element
Element Composed of one kind of atom which cannot be separated or broken down into simpler substances by chemical means.
Compound Substance made from the atoms of 2 or more elements chemically bonded.
Extensive Property A property that depends not the extent or size of a system.
Intensive Property A property that does not depend on the amount of matter present, such as pressure, temperature, or density.
Physical Property A characteristic of a substance that does not involve a chemical change, such as density, color, or hardness.
Physical Change A change of matter from one form to another without a change in chemical.
Change of State The change of a substance from one physical state to another.
Liquid A type of biochemical that does not dissolve in water, including fats and steroids; liquids store energy and make up cell membranes. (definite volume and indefinite shape)
Solid The state of matter in which and shape of a substance are fixed. (definite volume and shape)
Gas A form of matter that does not have a definite volume or shape.
Plasma High temperature physical state of matter in which atoms move most of there electrons, particles that make up atoms.
Chemical Property Relates to a substance's ability to undergo changes that transform it into different substances
Chemical Change/Reaction A change in which one or more substances are converted into different substances.
Reactants The substances that react in a chemical change.
Products The substances that are formed by the chemical change.
Groups/Families The vertical columns of the periodic table.
Periods The horizontal rows of elements in the periodic table.
Metal An element that is a good electrical conductor and a good heat conductor.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
