TermDefinition
Alliteration Repetition of consonant sounds. Ex.she sells sea shells
Allusion A brief and indirect reference to a person,place,thing,or idea of historical,cultural,literary,or political significance.
Anadiplosis The rhetorical repetition of one or several words specifically repetition of a word that ends one clause at the beginning of the next. Ex.Men in great place are thrice servants,servants of the sovereign or state,servants of fame
Anaphora The repetition of words at the beginning of successive clauses or lines. Ex I have a dream speach.
Chiasmus Two or more clauses which are relayed grammatically and conceptually but in which the Grammer and concepts are reversed. Ex.ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.
Diction The distinctive vocabulary of a particular author. Ex.four score and seven years ago.
Consanace A constant sound is repeated in words that are in close proximity.
Pathos Apealing to one's emotion.
Repetition Word,sound,phrase,idea,used for emphasis.
