slam poetry

TermDefinition
subject the subject on the poem on a surface level. The actual event, situation or experience being described.
Context the setting, geographical location, time period and historical or other social issues that have influenced the poet.
structure the way a poem is organised in terms of stanzas, number of lines and and interesting features,
Emotive Language is used to create powerful feelings in the reader. eg. rage, rage, against the dying light.
Repetition is used to reinforce the language, message or theme.
onomatopoeia words that sound like the noise they describe. eg. snap, swish, smack
Metaphor A comparison of two unlike things, saying that one thing is the other. eg. the soldier is a lion in battle.
