Poetry Techniques

TermDefinition
Metaphor A comparison of two unlike things, saying that one thing is the other
Onomatopoeia Words that sound like the noise they describe
Mood/Tone The general feeling/ mood that is created by poet through words
Emotive Language Is used to create powerful feelings in the reader
Repetion is used to reinforce the language, message or theme
Rhyme the repetition of the same or similar sounds, most often at the ends of lines of verse
Alliteration is use of words beginning with the same letter
