Poetry Techniques
Descriptions of poetry techniques to help you learn and remember definitions.
| Term | Definition |

| Rhyme | Repetition of the same/similar sounds. Normally used at the end of of a verse. |
| Hyperbole | The technique of exaggerating things |
| Onomatopeia | Words that describe the sound. Eg, bang, splat, ring. |
| Simile | When 2 words are used to compare something, using words such like or as. |
| Imagery | Using language techniques to help describe the situation they are in. Such as feels, sounds, etc. |
| Personification | The act of using human characteristics on a non human object. |
| Mood/tone | The general feeling that is created throughout the poem. |
| Repetition | The same words used to enforce the message and feeling. |
| Metaphor | A comparison between two different things. |
| Context | What the poem is about. |
