Poetry Techniques

TermDefinition
rhythm literary device which demonstrates the long and short patterns through stressed and unstressed syllables particularly in verse form.
Simile when two things are compared using conceive words such as like or as, to link them
Mood/Tone The general feeling / mood that is created by the poet through words
Imagery The use of language to create images by describing how something looks, sounds, feels, smells, or tastes
Repetition is used to reinforce the language, message or theme
Onomatopoeia words that sound like the noise they describe
subject the event/ situation or experience the poem is giving you
structure the way the poem is organised in terms or stanzas.
