Real Number Systems and Number Sense

Cube Root One of the three equal factors of a number
Fraction A number in the form , where b 0.
Integers The set of whole numbers and their opposites
Irrational Number A number that cannot be expressed as a ratio of two integers (or as a repeating or terminating decimal)
Natural Number A whole, non-negative number
Perfect Cubes The cube of a rational number
Perfect Square The square of a rational number
Radical An expression that uses a root, such as square root, cube root
Radicand The number underneath the square root symbol
Rational Number Any number that can be expressed as the ratio of two integers, a repeating (with pattern) or terminating decimal
Real Number A rational or irrational number
Repeating Decimal Decimal in which after a certain point a particular digit or sequence of digits repeats itself indefinitely
Square Roots One of the two equal factors of a number
Terminating Decimal Decimal which can be expressed in a finite number of figures or for which all figures to the right of some place are zero
Whole Number The numbers 0,1,2,3…
