Prefixes and Suffixes

| non- | prefix that generally means "not" as in "nonfiction" |

| -ly | suffix that generally means "in the manner of" as in "quietly" or "smoothly" |
| -less | suffix that generally means "without" as in "harmless" or penniless" |
| uni- | prefix that generally means "one" as in "unicycle" or "unicorn" |
| tri- | prefix that generally means "three" as in "tridrake" or "triangle" |
| bi- | prefix that generally means "two" as in "bilingual" (two languages) or "bicycle" |
| -ous | suffix that generally means "full of" as in "poisonous" |
| affix | a group of letters (prefix or suffix) added to a base or root word that changes the meaning of the word |
| -able | suffix that generally means "worthiness" |
| -est | suffix that generally means a comparison among more than two things as in "bravest" or "calmest" |
