Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Whole Number A number with NO decimals or fractions
Proper Fraction A fraction that has a numerator that is less than the denominator
Mixed Number A whole number and a proper fraction together
Improper Fraction A fraction in which the numerator is greater than or equal to the denominator
Simplify To make the numerator and the denominator of a fraction the smallest numbers possible
Reciprocal One of two numbers whose product is 1; this is when you FLIP the fraction
Algorithm A step-by-step method used to solve a problem (for example, the steps to a long division problem)
Sum The answer to an addition problem
Addend The numbers that are added together
Difference The answer to a subtraction problem
Subtrahead The number being subtracted from another number (the second number)
Minuend The number that is being taken away from (the first number)
Product The answer to a multiplication problem
Quotient The answer to a division problem
Dividend The number being divided; the number inside the box
Divisor The number which divides into another number; the number outside the division box
Denominator The bottom number in a fraction
Numerator The top number in a fraction
