A/C Fuel and Ordinance
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Class A Fires | Burning wood, wood products, cloths etc. Extinguished with stream or fog pattern. |
Class B Fires | gasoline, hydraulic fluid, flammable/ combustible liquids. Extinguished with AFFF, Halon 1211, PKP and CO2 |
Class C FIres | energized electrical equipment. Extinguished by deenergizing and treat as Class A,B, or D fire. 4 ft away if using water.(FOG) |
Class D Fires | combustible metals such as magnesium and titanium. extinguished with large quantities of water applied on narrow angle fog pattern. |
AVGAS | Flashpoint -50 degrees(-46C) Flame spread rate 700-800ft per minute |
JP-4 | Flashpoint -10 degrees(-23C) Flame spread rate 700-800ft per minute |
JP-5 | Flashpoint 140 degrees(60C) Flame spread rate of 100ft per minute lowest so considered safest for shipboard use |
JP-8 | Flashpoint 100 degrees(38C) Flame spread rate of 100ft per minute |
JATO | Jet-assisted takeoff |
Hydrazine | Flashpoint 126 degrees (70 percent hydrazine and 30 percent water) DO NOT USE PKP or HALON1211 to extinguish |
LOX (Liquid Oxygen) | Flashpoint -297 degrees 860 to 1 expansion rate |
ANti-icing Fluids | 85 percent alcohol 15 percent glycerin (to control dilute with water) |
Class A Combustibles | extinguished with AFFF |
Otto Fuel II | CAN NOT BE SMOTHERED, cool to below 250 Degrees with water fog or AFFF |
Carbon/Graphite fibers | Ignite at approx 752 degrees(400C) |
