Why does Cl have a low boiling point? Van Der Waals forces of attraction/ intermolecular forces are weak. Little energy is required to break this bonds.
Ionic compounds have high melting points. `Oppositely charged ions are very strong. Huge amount of energy is required to break bonds.
Metals are good electrical conductors. Mobile ions move freely between the positively charged metal ions.
Graphite is soft. Carbon atoms are weak. The layers can slide over each other easily.
Diamond does not conduct electricity. They consist of atoms and there are no free electrons remaining to conduct electricity.
