| expression | A group of mathematical symbols that represents a number. |
| volume formula | A measurement of how much space a solid object takes up. |
| rectangular prism | A solid (3-dimensional) object which has six faces that are rectangles. |
| cubic unit | A unit used in measuring volume. |
| parentheses | Grouping symbols, ( ), used to tell which parts of an expression should be calculated first. |
| exponent | A number used in exponential notation to tell how many times the base is used as a factor. |
| power of 10 | A whole number that can be written as a product of 10´s. |
| convert | To change from one unit of measure to another. |
| standard algorithm | A finite number of steps or routines that detail how to solve a particular problem. |
| decimal notation | A number written in standard, base-10 notation that contains a decimal point, such as 2.54. |
| coordinate system | A system which uses coordinates to determine the position of a point on a graph. |
| coordinate plane | A plane formed by two intersecting and perpendicular number lines used to help locate the position of any point on a map or graph. |
| x-axis/x-coordinate | The first number in an ordered pair that represents the distance of the point on the x-axis (horizontal axis). |
| y-axis/y-coordinate | The second number in an ordered pair that represents the distance of the point on the y-axis (vertical axis). |
| ordered pairs | A set of two numbers written in parentheses to show the position on a graph, where the ¨x¨ (horizontal) value is first, and the ¨y¨ (vertical) value is second. |
