plot another word for story; stories must have characters, a setting, a problem or conflict, a beginning, middle, and end
exposition this is the beginning of the story; it is the part of the story where the reader learns about the character/s and the setting
rising action this is the part of the story where the conflict starts to build; it's the part of the story where "stuff" starts to happen; things begin to get exciting
climax this is the most intense part of the story; this is the turning point of the story; after this, the story is not longer the same
falling action this is the part of the story where the problem begins to get figured out
resolution this is the end of a story; the conflict is solved
