Tier 3 Vocab Words

TermDefinition
area The size of a surface LxW=
square unit A square whose all side measures 1 unit.
plane figure A two-dimensional shape. A shape or figure drawn on a 2-dimensional plane.
square cm. The area equal to a square that is 1 centimeter on each side. The symbol is cm2
square in. is a unit of area, equal to the area of a square with sides of one inch.
square ft. unit of area measurement equal to a square measuring one foot on each side
Attrribute A characteristic or property of an object such as color,shape,size,etc.
nonstandard units A method of measuring that uses informal units. (handful, arm length, and stride)
tiling A pattern of shapes repeated to fill a plane. The shapes do not overlap and there are no gaps.
decomposing we break the number apart
perimeter The distance around a figure.
polygon A plane shape (two-dimensional) with straight sides.
side length The measure of the segment joining two adjacent vertices in a figure.
