| Submerged | Sunk; covered with liquid |
| Amiss | Wrong or improper |
| Convivial | Sociable or friendly |
| Cease | To stop; halt |
| Anachronism | Something out of its proper place in time (or history) |
| Forlorn | Hopeless, deserted, abandoned |
| Receded | Withdrew, became more distant |
| Dwindle | Shrink as in to lessen in quantity |
| Flimsy | Poorly made; easily broken or damaged |

| Transfixed | To shock or terrify someone so much as to induce a momentary inability to move |
| Intelligible | Capable of being understood; understandable |
| Assent | to agree with something |
| Intimidate | To frighten somebody into doing something |
| Defiant | Openly disobedient. Tending to confront and challenge others directly |
| Idiosyncrasy | A quirk; a way of behaving that is peculiar to an individual or group |
| Converging | To meet; to reach the same point coming from different directions |
| Explicit | Clear and obvious |
| Variations | Differences; The degree to which something differs |
| Superstition | Irrational belief in the magical effects of a specific action or ritual; especially in the likelihood that good or bad luck will result from performing that action |
