| Coordinating conjunction | two adjectives in a row that modify a noun and usually need a comma between them (It was a bright, sunny day.) |
| Dangling modifier | a phrase or clause that does not have a word in the sentence to modify (it's missing!). |
| Phrase | a group of words that does not contain a complete subject and verb, used to modify and add details to clarify meaning. |
| Redundancy | a word or phrase that repeats something else and is unnecessary |
| Coordinating conjunction | the "FANBOY" conjunctions (FOR, AND, NOR, BUT, OR, YET, SO) used to create compound sentence when used with a comma. |
| Clause | a group of words that contains a complete subject and verb, used to construct sentences; there are two types of clauses: independent and dependent (subordinate). |
| Allusion | an indirect reference to something else, usually in literature ("He was a real scrooge" is an allusion to Ebeneezer Scrooge from Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol.") |
