Fission splitting of an atomic nucleus to release energy (think about when you release pressure by opening a bottle and it "fizzes"
Fusion Creation of energy by joining the nuclei of 2 hydrogen atoms to form helium (fusing them together)
FDI (what it stands for) Foreign Direct Investment
FDI (what it is) Investment made by a foreign company in the economy of another country
Fracking (Hydraulic fracturing) pumping of water at high pressure to break rocks and release natural gas
Geothermal energy energy from steam or hot water from hot or molten underground rocks
Housing Bubble rapid increase in value of houses followed by sharp decline in value
IHDI Inequality-adjusted HDI- accounts for the inequality in a country
HDI based on income, literacy, education and life expectancy
Microfinance small loans and services to individuals in small businesses in developing countries
non-renewable energy source with a finite supply and can be exhausted (petroleum)
Passive solar energy systems collect energy without use of mechanical devices
photovoltaic cell solar energy cell, made of silicon, collecting solar rays for electricity
potential reserve amount of resource in deposits not yet identified, but THOUGHT to exist (usually under frozen land)
Primary Sector raw materials extracted: mining, farming, fishing

Value Added gross value of a product MINUS the costs of raw materials and energy/labor
HDI (What it stands for) Human Development Index
Quaternary sector wholesaling, finance, banking, real estate, advertising, marketing; BUSINESS SERVICES
Quinary sector retailing, tourism, entertainments, communication, government, semi-public services: health care, education, utilities: CONSUMER SERVICES
Commodity chains links between producers and consumers Think about steps tea takes to get to your mug and how it passes through all the sectors in a different way.
alternative energy (1) hydroelectricity (Cheapest), solar, wind, nuclear, tidal, geothermal power- currently more expensive to harness power than fossil fuels so less common.

California alt energy sources Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System - currently the largest solar installation in the world- its effectiveness is up for debate. (Yes, and you see it as you drive to Vegas. It is in San Bernardino, Mojave Desert)
