| Alcohol to Alkene | 300 degrees and Aluminium Oxide catalyst |
| Halogenoalkane to Amine | Ammonia |
| Halogenoalkane to Alcohol | NaOH, Reflux |
| Alcohol to Ester | Reflux with carboxylic acid, conc. sulphuric acid. Or acyl chloride at room temp. |
| Primary Alcohol to Aldehyde | Acidified Potassium dichromate, Distil |
| Primary Alcohol to Carboxylic Acid | Acidified Potassium dichromate, Reflux |
| Secondary alcohol to Ketone | Acidified Potassium dichromate, Reflux |
| Aldehyde or Ketone to Nitrile | HCN in the presence of alkali. |
| Ester to Alcohol & Carboxylic Acid | Water, dilute sulphuric acid catalyst or conc sodium hydroxide. |
| Carboxylic Acid or Aldehyde to Primary Alcohol | NaBH4 |
| Ketone to Secondary Alcohol | NaBH4 |
| Phenol to Ester | Acyl chloride or acid anhydride. |
| Benzene to Chlorobenzene | AlCl3, Cl2, Anhydrous |
| Benzene to Bromobenzene | FeBr3, Br2 |
| Benzene to Nitrobenzene | Concentrated HNO3, H2SO4, less that 55 degrees |
| Benzene to Benzene Sulfonic Acid | H2SO4, reflux |
| Benzene to Benzene with an R group | R-Cl, AlCl3, Reflux, Anhydrous |
| Benzene to Benzene with a COR group | R-COCl or acid anhydride, AlCl3, Reflux, Anhydrous |
| Acyl Chloride & Amine to Amide | Anhydrous Conditions, room temperature. |
| Amide (peptide) to Carboxylic Acid and Amine | Reflux, Aqueous acid or alkali moderately concentrated. |
| Phenylamine to Diazonium ion | NaNO2 and HCl |
| Diazonium ion to Azo Dye | Low Temp (less than 5 degress), sodium hydroxide, coupling agent such as phenol. |
