Who was Harriet Beecher Stowe? author of uncle tom’s cabin which was a dramatic portrayal of the brutality of slavery in the south

Why was the Southern economy so dependent on slaves? the south was still moistly rural and had an economy based on agriculture with large plantations and little or no factories
What was Lincoln’s view on slavery in the Lincoln-Douglas Debates of 1858? Compare and contrast this to Douglas’ argument. Lincoln belived that slavery was imoral, social and politically wrong.
What was proposed in 1850 to avoid civil war over the issue of slavery? Henry clay proposed the compromised of 1850 Calhoun showed strong opposing and it was Finlay passed when Douglas unbundled the individual measure.
What was the Fugitive slave Act & how did the North resist it? Forced Northerners to return slaves to their owners.
What was the result of the Kansas-Nebraska Act? the Missouri comprised was repealed which cleared the way for popular sovereignty in Kansas and Nebraska this also ignited violence n the area and increased debate about slavery
Who was John Brown & what were the effects of his actions at Harpers Ferry, VA (Think in terms of North v. South)? A radical abolitionist who believed God called him to end slavery. He was anti slavery and violent

Why did South Carolina and other states secede from the Union? Name the first 7 states to secede. Lincoln victory convinced southerns that they had lost their polemical voice in the Natal government southerns states feared political bondage and end of their entire way of life south Carolina Mississippi Florida Alabama Georgia Louisiana and Texes
What did Buchanan do about secession? He announced that secession was illegal, but that it also would be illegal for him to do about it. He tied his own hands and was an ineffective leader.
Why was the South so upset by Lincoln’s election? southerners believed that Lincoln's would seek to further reduce the states power and increased the Federal government power
