Lesson 4
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| How do you calculate electric power? | power=voltage x current |
| Power | rate at which energy is transformed from one form to annother/ unit is the watt |
| How do you calculate electric energy | energy=power x time |
| Kilowatt-hours | unit of electric energy / kilowatt x hours |
| How can electric shocks be prevented? | shocks can be prevented with devices that redirect current or break circuits |
| Short circuit | is a connection that allows current to take the path of least resistance |
| Ground wires | connect the circuits in a building directly to earth, giving charges an alternate path in an event of a short circuit |
| Third prong | connects any metal pieces in an appliance to the safety grounding wire of a building |
| Fuses | are devices that melt if they get too hot |
| Circuit Breakers | are switches that will bend away from circuits as they heat up / can reset |
| Grounded | any circuit connected to earths with a third prong |
