Who are the protagonists? Lucy, Edmund, Peter, Susan, and Aslan
Who is the antagonist? the White Witch
What side characters are important to the plot? How are they important? Mr. Tumnus is very important. Without him, the children would never have felt the responsibility to go against the witch. Mr. and Mrs. Beaver are also very important, because they tell about Aslan and bring Peter, Lucy, and Susan safely to him.
Describe the character of Edmund. Edmund is a dynamic character; he changes. In the beginning, he is spiteful and greedy. At the end, he realizes his mistakes and becomes recognized for fair justice.
Describe the character of Peter. Peter is brave, loyal, and responsible. He takes care of his siblings. He can be a little bossy.
Describe the character of Lucy. Lucy is brave, kind, and caring. She is also very honest.
Who was the second person to find Narnia? Edmund
What caused Peter and Susan to talk to the professor about Lucy? They think she is either going crazy or becoming a liar, because she keeps insisting Narnia is real.
What caused all 4 siblings to get into the wardrobe together? They are hiding from Mrs. Mcready.
What is the theme of the book? good vs. evil, taking a stand
What point of view does the author use to tell the story? third person limited, The narrator knows only Edmund and Lucy's thoughts.
What is the main conflict in the novel? The White Witch has oppressive control over Narnia and Aslan's followers want to be free of her.
What is the climax of the story? Aslan is killed on the Stone Table by the White Witch.
How is the conflict resolved? The White Witch and her army are destroyed on the battlefield and the Pevensies become kings and queens of Narnia.
What caused the Pevensie Kings and queens to wander back to the lamppost? They are trying to capture the White Stag.
What does the season of spring symbolize? goodness, new life, the end of the witch's reign
What caused Aslan's resurrection? The deeper magic invoked by his sacrificing himself to save Edmund.
What is the deep magic in Narnia? All who commit treason or betrayal must be given to the White Witch to be killed.
What is the deeper magic in Narnia? If any innocent person should sacrifice himself for another person who is guilty, death will be undone.
Define personification. giving human characteristics to a non-human thing
Define simile. a comparison using "like" or "as" between two unlike things
Define idiom. a phrase that means something different from what is said
Define imagery. good description that allows you to visualize what you are reading
Define allusion. when the text refers to something outside of itself, usually from history or another text
Why do you think the prophecies are written in rhyming verse? to make it seem more magical or to make it easier for the people of Narnia to remember after so many years or to add interest and emphasis since it foreshadows important events
What motif is present in the novel? winter/snow and spring
What genre is the novel? fantasy
What is the moral Edmund learns? to be kind and honest and fair
What is the author's purpose for writing this book? to entertain by telling a story also to teach children that good always wins
What does "self-satisfied" mean? smug, excessively proud of oneself
Which character would you describe as self-satisfied? The White Witch, or even Edmund in the beginning of the book
What does "sensible" mean? practical, realistic, responsible
Which character would you describe as sensible? Susan or Peter or the professor
What does "sacrifice" mean? to offer to give something up for another
What were 2 sacrifices that occurred in the novel? Mr. Tumnus sacrificed his safety to help Lucy escape Narnia. Aslan sacrificed his life to save Edmund's life.
What are the setting of the book? WWII England countryside at the professor's house and Narnia
What caused the children to be sent to the professor's house? They are escaping the air-raids in London.
