Subplot A plot secondary in importance to the main plot
Imagery Dscriptive words or phrases to create images in the reader's mind
Climax The turning point in a literary work
Rising Action The action and events leading up to the climax
Foil A character used to contrast another character
Tragic Flaw The flaw in a character that leads to his/her down fall
Romanticism Literature emphasizing emotions and imagination
Foreshadowing The act of hinting at things to follow
Dramatic Irony When the reader knows something that the character does not know
Falling Action Events following the climax leading to the conclusion of a work
Pathos An element that arouses pity or compassion
Static Character A character who remains the same throughout a work
Motif An often-repeated idea or theme in a story
Dynamic Character A character who changes in a work
Hubris Excessive pride or confidence
