Math Properties of Operations Definitions
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Commutative Property of Addition | When adding, changing the order of the numbers doesn't change the sum a+b=b+a |
| Commutative Proeprty of Multiplication | When multiplying, changing the order of the numbers doesn't change the product a*b=b*a |
| Associative Property of Addition | When adding more than two numbers, the grouping of the numbers doesn't change the sum a+(b+c)=(a+b)+c |
| Associative Property of Multiplication | When multiplying more than two numbers, the grouping of the numbers doesn't change the product a*(b*c)=(a*b)*c |
| Distributive Property | Multiplying a number by a sum or difference is the same as multiplying by each number in the sum or difference and then adding or subtracting a*(b+c)=a*b+a*c |
| Identity Property of Addition | Adding zero to s number does not change its value a+0=a |
| Identity Property of Multiplication | Multiplying a number by one does not change its value a*1=a |
