Math Properties of Operations Definitions

TermDefinition
Commutative Property of Addition When adding, changing the order of the numbers doesn't change the sum a+b=b+a
Commutative Proeprty of Multiplication When multiplying, changing the order of the numbers doesn't change the product a*b=b*a
Associative Property of Addition When adding more than two numbers, the grouping of the numbers doesn't change the sum a+(b+c)=(a+b)+c
Associative Property of Multiplication When multiplying more than two numbers, the grouping of the numbers doesn't change the product a*(b*c)=(a*b)*c
Distributive Property Multiplying a number by a sum or difference is the same as multiplying by each number in the sum or difference and then adding or subtracting a*(b+c)=a*b+a*c
Identity Property of Addition Adding zero to s number does not change its value a+0=a
Identity Property of Multiplication Multiplying a number by one does not change its value a*1=a
