| Mineral | Formed by earth's geological processes. *Ex. Gold, Salt |
| Sedimentary Rock | A type of rock formed by the cementation and compaction of sediments. *Forms layers. |
| Sediment | Material such as sand and silt that settles at the bottom of a liquid. |
| Cementation | Cementing, or sticking, together. |

| Metamorphic Rock | A type of rock that is formed under the earth's surface with extreme heat and pressure. |
| Rock Cycle | The continuous process of rocks forming and changing from one form to another. |
| Fossil Fuels | Natural fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas that are formed from the remains of dead organisms. |
| Coal | A fossil fuel formed in ancient swamps that is formed from the remains of dead plants. It is used to generate electricity. |
| Peat | The first step in the formation of coal. *Made from dead plants. |
| Decay | To decompose or break down. |
| Oil / Petroleum | A type of fossil fuel that is formed in oceans from the remains of decayed organisms. It's main use is for transportation. |
| Natural Gas | A type of fossil fuel formed similar to oil but it has no color. It is used for cooking and heating homes. |
| Nonrenewable Resources | Resources that cannot be replaced during our lifetime because they take millions of years to form. |
| Renewable Resources | Resources that can be replaced in a short amount of time such as trees, crops, and animals. |
| Inexhaustible Resources | Resources that will never run out such as wind and solar power. |
