Bill of Rights: The first 10 Amendments to the United States Constitution
Mayflower Compact: agreement which established Plymouth’s government, and said religion would not play a role in their decisions
First Continental Congress: Meeting in Philadelphia attended by 12 delegates except RI.
Declaration of Independence: Document that stated the colonies were no longer part of Britain.
Great Compromise: Settled differences among large and small states by creating 2 chambers of Congress based on both population and equality.
Legislative: branch of government that passes laws (Congress)
Judicial: branch of government that decides if laws are carried out fairly (Supreme Court)
Senate: 1 of 2 chambers of Congress (based on 2 representatives per state)
Anti-Federalist: opposed the early draft of the Constitution without a Bill of Rights
War Powers Act: stated Congress must be informed with 48 hours if a president sends troops to a foreign land. Only Congress can declare war, and if Congress disapproves, troops must return home in 90 days
Shay’s Rebellion: Uprising by Massachusetts farmers due to the lack of Power under the Articles of Confederation.
