| Asyndeton | The absence of conjunction between parts of sentence. |
| Periodic Sentence | A sentence that leaves the completion of its main clause to the end which produces an effect or suspense. |
| Juxtaposition | The fact of 2 things being seen or placed close together with contrasting effect. |
| Chiasmus | A rhetorical device in which 2 or more clauses are balanced against each other by the reversal of their structures in order to produce an artistic effect. |
| Loose Sentence | A type of sentence in which the main idea comes first, followed by dependent grammatical units. |
| Sentenia | Argument or sum of something said in a wise/witty way. |
| Parallelism | The use of components in a sentence that are grammatically correct or the same, with similar sound. |
| Active Voice | One of the 2 “voices” of verbs. When the verb of a sentence is in the active voice, the subject is doing the action. |
| Anaphora | In writing or speech, the deliberate repetition of the first part of the sentence in order to achieve an artistic effect. |
| Syllogism | A rhetorical device that starts an argument with a reference to something general and from this it draws conclusions about something more specific. |
| Connotation | An idea or feeling that a word invokes in addition to its literal or primary meaning. |
| Repetition | The act of repeating, or doing, saying, or writing something again;repeated action, performance, production, or presentation. Doing so can emphasis something important. |
| Antithesis | A contrast or opposition between 2 things. |
| Passive Voice | The subject of the sentence is acted up on the verb. Typically has the word “was”. |
| Syntax | The arrangement of words and phrases to create well-formed sentences in a language. |
| Tricolon | A powerful device meant for humor. |
| Ellipsis | A series of dots (typically three, such as "…") that usually indicates an intentional omission of a word, sentence, or whole section from a text without altering its original meaning. |
