Fossil Vocab Cards

amber hardened tree sap, often a source of insect fossils
cast fossil a fossil formed or shaped inside a mold; a copy
extinct died out, leaving no more of that type of organism alive
fossil the preserved remains of something that lived long ago
mold fossil an empty space in a rock that once contained an object such as a dead organism
paleontologist a scientist that studies fossils and organisms that lived long ago
decay to rot, decompose or perish
organism a living thing
trace fossil a shallow mark or print in a rock
true/body fossil when a plant or animal gets trapped inside ice, amber, or tar. The entire organism is preserved and remains intact.
