| Tropism | a growth response of a plant toward or away from something in its environment |
| Phototropism | the growth response of plants to light |
| Gravitropism | the growth response of plants to gravity |
| Positive phototropism | the growth of plants toward light |
| Negative gravitropism | the growth of roots in the direction of the pull of gravity |
| Negative gravitropism | growing away from the pull of gravity |
| Thigmotropism | aplant's growth response to touch |
| Solar tracking | it’s a phenomena when the flowers of some plants track the sun as sunflowers do |
| Dormant | when plants become inactive due to cold |
| Long day (short night) plants | plants that flower when there are more than a certain number of daylight hours Ex sunflowers, snapdragons, Begonias |
| Short day (long-night)plants | plants that flower when there are fewer than a certain number of daylight hours Ex Poinsettia, Strawberries, and Ragweed |
| Annual plants | plants that germinate, flower, make seeds and die within one growing season, Ex Impatiens, Begonias, and Marigolds |
| Perennial plants | plants that return year after year, Ex Florida paintbrush, Honeysuckle, and other woody plants |
