Proctor's death at the end of the play is a result of: Refusing to confess
Pride John Proctor, who has been in jail for three months and is slated to die on that very day. Proctor's wife is brought to the jail so that she might persuade him not to throw "his life away for pride."
Revenge in the crucible Abagail gets jealous of Elizabeth because she wants John Proctor. So Abagail plots a revenge plan to get back at Elizabeth. So that she can have john all to herself.
fear bulling=Abigail is the bully and she says if there is anyone tries to turn on her they will be sorry. Mary warren stands up for what is right to try to save Elizabeth but she is fearful of what Abagail will do to her so marry warren turns on Proctor
Authority Proctor and Giles Corey rankle under these layers of authority – Proctor had long rejected Parris's preaching’s, and Corey made the authority of the law work for him as a constant accuser
Guilt John Proctor is the main source of guilt in the play, and it changes his character. He felt guilty after committing adultery behind Elizabeth's back. The guilt in John bubbled up to the point that he broke down and admitted to it in the court:
intolerance In the crucible we can see that Mr. Putnam does not tolerate anyone skipping church. For example, in the play John Proctor skips church and Mr. Putnam is not happy about it at all.
Integrity When Proctor confesses to his affair with Abigail while in court, he does so because his sense of integrity demands it.
What type of irony and why it is ironic “I have signed seventy-two death warrants; I ma a minister of the Lord, and I dare not take a life without there be a proof so immaculate no slightest qualm of conscience may doubt it” Verbal irony: he says that he needs proof but his only proof is a group of girls that claim they have seen the devil. He has signed 72 death warrants and this is the first time that he does not believe they were with the devil
What type of irony and why it is ironic “We burn a hot fire here; It melts down all concealment.” Verbal irony: Danforth says this and this is ironic because they have caused a lot of horror with all of the witch trials and now Marry Warren is trying’ to confess to never seeing anyone with the devil. That means that a lot of innocent people were hung.
What type of irony this is and why it is ironic Danforth: Answer my question! Is your husband a lecher!” Elizabeth: “No Sir” Dramatic irony: in the seen before this john states that his wife has never told a lie in her life. This is ironic because Elizabeth lies for the first time to save her husband’s name (this leads to Johns hanging)
