percent a ratio comparing a number to 100 EX: 45% = 45/100
rate a ratio that compares two quantities measured in different units EX: Miles per hour
ratio a comparison of two quantities by division EX: can be written as 2:5, 2 to 5 or 2/5
complex fraction a fraction that contains one or more fractions in the numerator, the denominator or both EX: (1/2)/(3/4)
constant of proportionality a constant ratio of two variables related proportionally
proportion an equation that states that two ratios are equivalent EX: 3/4=6/8
proportional relationship a relationship between two quantities in which the ratio of one quantity to the other quantity is constant
rate of change a ratio that compares the amount of change in a dependent variable to the amount of change in an independent variable EX: (change in cost)/(change in time)
unit rates a rate in which the second quantity in the comparison is one unit EX: 10cm per minute
