First semester vocab list

TermDefinition
Sum The result when two or more numbers are added.
Difference The result when two or more numbers are subtracted.
Product The result when two or more numbers are multiplied.
Quotient The result when two or more numbers are divided.
Whole number A number that is not a negative and not a fraction.
Rational number Any number that can be expressed as a ratio of two integers.
Integer The set of whole numbers and their opposites.
Absolute value The distance of a number from zero on a number line.
Commutative property You can add or multiply numbers in order.
Associative property When you add or multiply, you can group the numbers together in any combination.
Distributive property The property that terms in an expression may be expanded in a particular way to form an equivalent expression.
