Linear Relationships

Essential Vocabulary for Unit 4

TermDefinition
Linear Relationship when plotted gives you a straight line
Equation a math sentence that says two things are equal
Model to write, illustrate, or show a mathematical relationship in some way
Formula a special type of equation that shows the relationship between variables
Slope the steepness of a line; "rise over run"
Proportional Relationship a straight line through the origin (0,0)
Rate of Change the steepness of a line; "rise over run"
X-Intercept where the line crosses the x-axis
Y-Intercept where the line crosses the y-axis
Slope-Intercept Form y=mx+b, m=slope, b=y-intercept
Approximate come close to
Unit Rate describes how many units of the first quantity corresponds to one unit of the second quantity
