Essential Vocabulary for Unit 4
| Term | Definition |

| Linear Relationship | when plotted gives you a straight line |
| Equation | a math sentence that says two things are equal |
| Model | to write, illustrate, or show a mathematical relationship in some way |
| Formula | a special type of equation that shows the relationship between variables |
| Slope | the steepness of a line; "rise over run" |
| Proportional Relationship | a straight line through the origin (0,0) |
| Rate of Change | the steepness of a line; "rise over run" |
| X-Intercept | where the line crosses the x-axis |
| Y-Intercept | where the line crosses the y-axis |
| Slope-Intercept Form | y=mx+b, m=slope, b=y-intercept |
| Approximate | come close to |
| Unit Rate | describes how many units of the first quantity corresponds to one unit of the second quantity |
