Cohesion When a substance sticks to itself
Solvent A substance that dissolves another substance
Solute A substance that dissolves in another substance
Adhesion When a substance sticks to another substance
Density How far apart atoms are in a substance Density= Mass/ Volume
Surface Tension The thin layer on the surface of water that is made up of hydrogen bonds
Polarity The unequal sharing of electrons in an atom
Hydrogen Bonds When the oxygen atom of a water molecule makes a weak bond withe hydrogen atom of another molecule. This is the result of polarity.
Universal Solvent Water can dissolve most things in the universe. It is a better solvent than most acids
