TermDefinition
Exposition the characters and setting
Setting when and where a story takes place
static character a character who stays the same throughout a story
dynamic character a character who changes by the end of a story (such as through their personality)
conflict the problem
rising action events that take place before the climax
climax the turning point of the story, where the main character usually has to make a decision
resolution the solution to the main conflict, how the conflict is solved
falling action events that take place after the climax that lead to the resolution
initiating event the event that begins the conflict (it introduces the problem to the reader)
theme the lesson about life that is learned through the events that take place in a story
