| Why do permanent waves need to be neutralized? | It stops the action of the waving solution and rebuilds the hair into its new curl form. |
| How do thio relaxers straighten the hair? | Thio relaxers break disulfide bonds and soften the hair. After enough bonds are broken, the hair is straightened into its new shape. |
| How do hydroxide relaxers straighten the hair? | Hydroxide relaxers go through a process called lanthionization, where they remove a sulfur atom from a disulfide bond and form a lanthionine bond. |
