What are the chemical actions that take place during permanent waving? The chemical actions that take place are from the application of permanent waving solution and neutralizer.
What is the difference between an alkaline wave and a true acid wave? Alkaline wave have a pH between 9 and 9.6, while true acid waves have a pH between 4.5 and 7. True acid waves also process more slowly and do not produce as firm a curl as alkaline waves.
Why do permanent waves need to be neutralized? It stops the action of the waving solution and rebuilds the hair into its new curl form.
How do thio relaxers straighten the hair? Thio relaxers break disulfide bonds and soften the hair. After enough bonds are broken, the hair is straightened into its new shape.
How do hydroxide relaxers straighten the hair? Hydroxide relaxers go through a process called lanthionization, where they remove a sulfur atom from a disulfide bond and form a lanthionine bond.
What is curl re-forming and what it is best used for? Curl reforming makes the existing curl larger and looser. It is best used on existing curly hair to make the existing curls larger and looser.
