Describe the voting provisions in these laws (1957)- Set up a Civil Rights Commission (1964)- outlaws discrimination based on sex/race/color/age (1965)- applied the 15th amendment everywhere
Which election do voters usually vote in- off year elections or in year? In year (Presidential)
How does a person's political efficacy affect his or her voting behavior? -decides on if they vote or not -with no political efficacy, its more than likely they wont vote
Explain how income, education, and age usually affect voting behaviors? -lower education; typically more democratic -young ppl/women favor democrats -college/high school favor republicans
Explain how party identification develops; and how it affects the way individuals vote -loyal voters vote for ANYTHING that their political party puts up
What is public opinion? -views and ideas of very many people
What are the influences of education and family so powerful in the development of political attitudes? raised and developed political likeness of their family rank and political party
Besides education and family, what other forces help influence public opinion? -historic events -religious/ethnic background -geography
What is mass media? Media that reaches large amounts of people
What evidence can you give that the mass media influence public opinion? Ads, TV, sound bites, biased articles
Name atleast four types of mass media newspaper, internet, TV, radio, magazines
Which mass media is being used/ being used less? Internet & Newspapers
Explain the role of mass media on the public agenda people control what goes on the media, which then can falsely influence people or lead people to only believe what they show
What is the impact of the mass media on electoral politics? it influences how they vote
What factors limit the impact of the mass media on American politics? -selective hearing -content the media carries
What is an interest group? group with similar interests in a certain topic
How are political parties different than political parties? -primary focus -Interest groups dont nominate canidates -scope of their interests
At what levels can you find Interest groups? any level
Into what category do most interest groups fall into? business groups
What is the difference between a business group and a labor union? -business groups are bosses -labor unions are workers
For what reasons, other than economic, are interest groups created? any social issue
