Who was William Pitt? | William Pitt was the Prime Minister of Britain. He chose generals and commanders based off of skill, not family ties. |
What did Pitt say he'd do before the French and Indian War? | Pitt said that he'd pay for the French and Indian War, in order to avoid complaints from the American colonists. However, he got in huge debt, and raised tax prices after the French and Indian War. |
How did Pitt intend to conquer Canada? | In order to conquer Canada, Pitt sent British troops under the command of British generals James Wolfe and Jeffrey Amherst. |
What happened in 1758? | Amherst and Wolfe recapture fortress at Louisbourg. That same year, British officers capture Fort Frontenac at Lake Ontario and recaptured Fort Duquesne (renaming it Fort Pitt). |
What happened September 1759? | James Wolfe's scouts found a poorly guarded path to the fort at New France's Capital, Quebec. They defeated the guards and waited in the Plains of Abraham. They then attacked the fort, and defeated the French. However, James Wolfe died in battle. |
What happened a year after the fall of Quebec? | General Amherst captured Montreal and brought an end to the French and Indian War. |
