| Simile | a figure of speech that makes a direct comparison between two subjects using "like" or "as" |
| Characterization | the creation and developoment of a character; traits, thoughts, appearance, background, reactions; the opinions of others |
| Dynamic Character | a character who undergoes an important inner change, as a change in personality or attitude |
| Static Character | a character who undergoes little or no inner change who does not grow or develop |
| Dialect | a distinct variety of a standard language used by a group of speakers who are set off from others geographically or socially |
