Reading Literature AKS 4) Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they ar

Simile Comparison of two objects using like or as.
Metaphor Compares two things but does not use like or as.
Idiom Words or phrases that do not literally mean what they say.
Personification when you give a non-human object human characteristics.
Onomatopoeia Words that represent sounds.
Hyperbole Extreme exaggeration
Alliteration repeating the same beginning sounds/letter.
Imagery (Sensory Language) When the author uses words to help you visualize the story in your mind.
