Zaher's Linear Functions Vocabulary

QuestionAnswer
Input A value that are substituted into an equation.
Output The value that results after a value is substituted into an equation.
Domain All the values that go into a function.
Range All the output values of a function.
Function An equation that generates one specific value for a given value.
Linear Function A function that creates a straight line when graphed.
Rate A ratio of two different quantities that have different units of measure.
Unit Rate A comparison of two different measurements where one of the terms is 1.
65 MPH is an example of what? Unit Rate
Coordinate Plane 2 dimensional surface on which points are plotted and locateable.
How do you graph (4, 7)? Starting at (0,0), go right 4 then up 7. Place your point here.
Proportional When 2 quantities change at the same constant rate and pass through (0,0).
Non-Proportional When 2 quantities change at different rates OR do not pass through (0,0) OR both of these.
Is the function y = 6x proportional or non-proportional? Proportional
What is the y-intercept of y = 6x? 0
What is the slope of y = 6x? 6 or 6/1
What is the Rate of Change of y = 6x? 6 or 6/1
What is the formula for Rate of Change? the difference in the y's over the differences in the x's
What is the formula for Slope? the difference in the y's over the differences in the x's
What is the slope of y = -8x + 4 ? -8
What is the slope of y = x + 9 ? 1
What is the Rate of Change of y = -x + 11 ? -1
