Gr 6 Fraction Vocab

Terms need to add, subtract, multiply, or divide fractions

TermDefinition
Fraction -a whole that has been divided into smaller, equal parts
Proper Fraction -a fraction where the smaller number is on top
Improper Fraction -a fraction where the bigger number is on top
Numerator -the top number of a fraction
Denominator -the bottom number of a fraction
Whole Number -a number zero or larger that has not been divided into smaller parts
Mixed Number -a whole number "mixed up" with a fraction
Reciprocal -a fraction that flipped the numerator and denominator
Simplify Before you Multiply -a way to reduce numbers of a fraction placed diagonally that share common factors
