# 8-2 Sci Chapter 2

### Slope, Distance, Velocity, Time

The slope of a distance vs time graph is equal to speed
The slope of a speed vs time graph is equal to acceleration
What is the difference between average speed and instantaneous speed? Average speed is total distance divided by total time. Instantaneous speed is speed you have at a specific point on the journey.
What is the difference between speed and velocity? Speed is how fast you are going over a certain distance. Velocity is speed and direction.
What is the difference between acceleration and speed? Speed is distance over time. Acceleration is how much your speed changes over time
What type of acceleration is cruise control on a straight road? zero acceleration
What type of acceleration is applying brakes on a truck? deceleration
What type of acceleration is dropping a ball from the roof? acceleration (due to gravity)
What type of acceleration is a motorcycle parked in a parking log? zero acceleration
What type of acceleration is a car turning a sharp corner? acceleration
time = ? distance divided by velocity
distance = ? velocity multiplied by time
velocity (speed) = ? distance divided by time
