Argument Writing

Terms to know when writing an agumentative piece

TermDefinition
Fact a statement that can be proven true
Opinion One person's belief or judgment, a personal view
Argument Making a claim and supporting it with logic
Claim The point that you are trying to get your reader to support
Evidence Facts that support your claim
Counter Argument Challenging the argument by addressing the position of someone who may not agree with the argument
Rebuttal Demonstrating why the counterargument is wrong
Thesis The last sentence in an introductory paragraph. It makes a statement that the paper will set forth to prove.
Call to Action A closing statement that calls on your reader to take action/do something in response to your argument
