What is one concept of the government change? Pope Gregory I conflicts between the king and pope.
Which invading people caused turmoil in the 800's? The germanic invaders
What exchange took place between lords and vassels under feudalism? Lord granted to a fief, the person receiving the fief was the vassel.
What duties did the lord of a manor and his serfs owe one another? Serfs labor reduced belonging to the lord.
How was the manor largely self sufficient both militarily and economically? For protection and food.
What benefits do you think a medieval manor provided to the serfs who lived there? For food, shelter, protection, and for a sense of belonging.
What are 3 things you would find on a manor? A farm, castle, and a church.
What were the stages of becoming a knight? Page, squire, and being a knight
What role did women play under feudalism? They had low incomes, housework, and farm work.
What were common subjects of troubadours song? The joys and sorrows of romantic love.
What 3 masters were knights supposed to serve? Their heavenly lord, earthly lord, and their chosen lady.
What is chivalry? The code of conduct for knights.
What values were knights supposed to follow? Honesty, bravery, loyalty, and respect.
Why did German Kings fail to unite their lands? They were getting into conflicts with the pope.
What were some of the matters covered by cannon law? Marriage and religious practices.
How was the structure of the church like that of a feudal system? The pope had power which brought the people and the officials under it.
Name one event that was power struggles between the church and the rulers? In 1075, King Henry IV journeyed Canossa.
What is a sacrament? A christian ceremony in which God's grace is transmitted in us.
What is the Holy Roman Empire? An empire established in 10th century A.D
What is clergy? A body of officials who perform religious services.
