Metric system
a system of units for measurement
| Term | Definition |

| Length | The distance between two points. Instrument: meter stick or metric ruler basic unit:meters |
| Volume | The amount of space an object takes up. |
| Mass | The amount of matter inside an object. Intrument: electronic balance or triple beam balance. Basic unit: grams. |
| Weight | The force of gravity pulling down on an object. |
| Temperature | Measures the average vibrational kinetic energy is an object. Instrument: thermometer. Basic unit: celceius. |
| Time | Instrument: clock. Basic unit: seconds, minuets, hours |
| Scientific notation | An easier way to wright big numbers. For example: 000356, which would be turned into 3.56✖️10 to the 2nd power. |
| Meniscus | Water curves up the sides of the graduated cylinder so in order to read the most accurate measurement of the volume, always looks at eye level at the bottom part of the curve called the meniscus |
