Multiplying and Dividing Decimals

TermDefinition
Denominator the bottom number of a fraction that tells how many equal parts are in the whole.
Dividend the number to be divided in a division problem. The number under the division bracket
Divisor the number you are dividing by in a division problem. The number outside the division bracket
Numerator the top number of a fraction that tells how many parts of a whole are being considered.
Operation A mathematical process. The most common are add, subtract, multiply and divide (+, −, ×, ÷).
Product the answer when two or more numbers are multiplied.
Quotient the answer when two numbers are divided.
Rational number a number that can be written as a fraction.
Symbol A pattern or image used instead of words.
Whole number The numbers {0, 1, 2, 3, ...} etc.
