FLOSS RULE if a word has one vowel, and ends in f,l,s,or z, you must double these consonanaunts, exp. ff, ll. The vowel will make it's soft sound in these words. Exceptions are bus, gas and yes...which come from longer words, or phrase:)
Unit.....all this unit is pronounced as one sound. It is always spelled this way with the exception of doll
a,e,i,o, u apple, eddy, itchy, olive, upper......vowels
if c is followed by watch vowels... E, I, Y....it makes the 's' sound, otherwise it makes the 'k' sound
a closed syllable has only one vowel and has a consonant at the end, the vowel will make it's soft sound
blend when two consonant sounds blend together, exp....cl, fl, sl, st,
diagraph when two consonant sounds create a new sound....ch, ck, sh, th, wh
milk truck rule in a word with 1 vowel, the /k/ sound at the end will never be spelled with a C. so at the end of such a word your choice is k or ck. Only use ck right after a short vowel, otherwise use K.
exception to the milk truck rule. words that end in /kt/ such as fact, are always spelled ct, latin origin
catch lunch rule tch and ch make the /ch/ sound. You use the long spelling tch directly after a short vowel, as in ca tch. You use ch after a short vowel and a consonant, as in lun ch

Kiss the Cat this rule says if a k sound comes before e,i,y watch vowels use a k, if it comes before any other vowels use a c, c used most often
Long I at the end of a word= cry, use a y
Long E at the end = baby, use a y
No floss rule used on multi syllable words because it only applies to word that have one vowel....so it does not apply to syllables
RUE the FLU in an open syllable, a long U can make two sounds, U or oo, if a u comes after an L or an R, it almost always makes the ee-oo sound as in Flu
the SEE sound at the end of a word is spelled: cy, as iln Nancy, most of the time
Music Trick The only time you spell ic as I C is at the end of a multi-syllable word like MU SIC. If it is one syllable you will spell it ICK as in Trick
Picnic Chicken Basket Rule this rule shows you when to use the k sound in multi-syllable words, use a c if you can, then a ck, then a k...remember to look for watch out vowels, soft vowel sounds and consonants after vowels to decide what you can use.
