Chemistry Ch 1 MATTER

Molecular Model a scale model showing the arrangement of atoms in a molecule
Molecules the smallest possible amount of a particular substance that has all the characteristics of that substance
Atoms the smallest particle of a substance that can exist by itself or be combined with other atoms to form a molecule
Observation a statement about something you have noticed
Qualitative observations that you see and describe
Quantitative observations that have numerical information
Matter the substance of which a physical object is composed; material substance that occupies space, has mass,
Chemistry a science that deals with the composition, structure, and properties of substances and with the changes that they go through
Volume an amount of space as measured in cubic units
Thermometer an instrument used for measuring temperature
Temperature a measurement in degrees showing the heat of something
Solid having no space inside
Liquid flowing freely like water
Gas a substance (such as oxygen or hydrogen) that is like air and has no fixed shape
Particle any one of the very small parts of matter (such as a molecule, atom, or electron)
