Y10 Geometry

TermDefinition
regular polygon A polygon with equal sides and equal angles
congruent The same size and shape, or identical
similar The same shape, but not necessarily the same size.
exterior angle The angle formed when one of the sides of a polygon is extended
convex polygon A polygon which has no interior angles greater than 180°, or a polygon whose vertices point outward, not inward.
geometry The branch of mathematics that deals with the measurement, properties and relationships of points, lines, surfaces and solids.
closed figure A plane shape that completely surrounds an area. Squares and circles are closed figures but an angle is not.
polygon A plane closed figure or shape with straight sides.
diagonal An interval joining a vertex to another non-adjacent vertex.
cross-section The shape produced when a cut or slice is made through a solid
angle sum The total of the angle sizre in a shape
bisect To cut in half
perpendicular An interval or line constructed at right angles (90°) to another interval or line
supplementary Two angles that add up to 180°
